Jose A. Ruiz Marquez

Jose started playing drums back in 1980 and attended Musicians Institute in 1990, studying with Joe Porcaro, and Ralph Humphrey. In 1993 he did his first gig with Ednita Nazario and has been her drummer ever since. Some of the people he has worked with include: Glenn Monroig, Beto Cuevas (singer of world famous Chilean Band La Ley), Sugar Hill Gang, Olga Tañon, Luis Fonsi, Robby Rosa, Lourdes Robles, Ricky Martin, Yaire, Millie Corretjer, Wilkins (recorded the live DVD Unplugged), Jose Feliciano, Papo Lucca, Roberto Rohena, Lucesita, Danny Rivera, Nydia Caro, Cachete Maldonado, Danilo Perez, Julio Sabala, Idale, Radio Pirata, Rene Farrait, Deddie Romero, Elias Lopes, Luis Rojas, Jorge Laboy, Lunna, Cucco Peña, Antonio Barasorda, Ana Baiana, Martha and the Vandellas, Tito Nieves, Lissette, The Shirelles, Charlie Sepulveda, Nore Feliciano, El Reencuentro, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico, BOB Chucho Avellanet, Alberto Carrion, Dagmar and many others.

 

He also works with prog rock bands ONGO, and Odd John Hawkins and Kingstorm. Independent projects that allows him to freely explore odd meters and heavy rock themes that his other work don't allow. With Ednita Nazario he has recorded 4 live albums and 3 have been nominated for either a Grammy or a Latin Billboard Award.
